General Board meeting establishes global WEF formula; USA National Board approves new Pension and Educational formulas
With a unanimous vote of the 86th General Board, meeting in Overland Park, Kansas, USA, on 21-23 February 2009, the Church of the Nazarene has for the first time put in place a global World Evangelism Fund formula of 5.5 percent. This means all areas, USA/Canada and World Mission regions, will work toward the same goal. read more

General Board puts in place new structures for Nazarene Global Mission
Looking to the future, the 86th General Board approved recommendations on revisioning from the Board of General Superintendents submitted through the Executive Committee. The first recommendation creates a new organization for the General Board. read more

Coming out of the 86th General Board meeting, the Board of General Superintendents, the Executive Committee, and the Finance Committee added detail to plans for dealing with what church leaders believe could be an extended global economic crisis affecting the Church of the Nazarene. read more

Bethany First Church reports 173 spontaneous baptisms
Sunday morning, February 22, Pastor David Busic, senior pastor at Bethany, Oklahoma, First Church of the Nazarene, gave a brief message on baptism and invited anyone who had not been baptized to be baptized on the spot. In two morning services, 173 people responded. read more

"They Are Many"—The Luzon, Philippines, District Centennial Celebration
The day before the Centennial Sunday, five gigantic tents to accommodate 500-600 people were pitched beside The Luzon, Philippines, District parsonage. On the left side of the district property hung numerous pictures of the year's church events and activities across the district. On the right side, men and women cut fresh vegetables, chopped meat, and mixed ingredients for dishes of pancit and adobo and other Filipino festive dishes. (Slideshow) read more

Chapel on October 8, 2008, at European Nazarene College marked the actual Nazarene Centennial at Pilot Point, Texas, 100 years ago. Porter celebrates multiplication in Africa
Jerry D. Porter, jurisdictional general superintendent for the Africa Region, recently joined with African Nazarenes to train leaders and to celebrate the multiplication of growth among the churches there. One highlight of the trip was observing a man burning his witch doctor paraphernalia as a testimony to his new life in Christ. read more


A loaf of bread, a cuppa, hugs, and nappies: Simple comforts for bushfire survivors
Not much can stop NazCare volunteer Annette Hammill when it comes to helping families who lost everything in the recent Australia bushfires. She has delivered more than 120 Crisis Care Kits, School Pal Packs, first-aid kits, and bath towels to those in need. In addition, she has given out daily baked fresh bread to survivors, shared hugs over "a cuppa" (a cup of tea), provided a much-needed shoulder to cry on, and a compassionate, empathic ear for stories of despair. Tennessee children's project scores 311 "GOL" soccer balls
Paper soccer balls, each representing a $10 donation, decorate the windows of Gallatin, Tennessee, First Church of the Nazarene. The children of the church are learning what it means to love Jesus and love others. Twenty children raised $3,110.62 and contributed the first funds toward purchasing evangelism soccer balls for global distribution to reach children and youth. (Slideshow) read more

"I had no IDEA..."
For the first time in the Church's history, the majority of General Assembly participants will likely be made up of representatives from outside the U.S. and Canada. However, the process required to travel to the U.S. can become expensive and complicated, often costing more than a year's salary for some to simply obtain the required travel documents. To make this burden less cumbersome, the International Delegate Expense Aid (IDEA) Fund was created to provide financial assistance for world area delegates who incur such great financial costs. read more

Eastern Nazarene College will be hosting its annual Festival of Life event from March 19-21. Festival of Life is for senior high school students and provides them the opportunity to develop and share their God-given talents through competition in athletics, music, drama, the arts, and math and sciences. read more
