Christian homes on fire in India
In the early hours of August 23, a Hindu nationalist leader, Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati, was shot to death in Orissa, India. Five of his followers were also killed. Although it was allegedly an act by Marxist terrorists, many people are blaming the murder on Christians. In reaction to the killings, some have retaliated by burning down churches and homes, including those of Nazarenes. read more

Gustav kills nearly 60 in Caribbean, takes aim at southern U.S.
News outlets are reporting Tropical Storm Gustav killed at least 51 people in Haiti, eight in the Dominican Republic, and displaced thousands from their homes this week. With Gustav now a hurricane and projected to hit the southern U.S., Nazarene Disaster Response is readying its Rapid Response teams. read more

Oldham to lead enrollment efforts at MVNU
This week, Bruce Oldham was promoted to vice president for Enrollment Management at Mount Vernon Nazarene University. He most recently served as associate vice president for Enrollment Management and as professor of Christian education. read more

Trevecca Nazarene University adjunct education instructor Barbara Corso Ide has been named the 2008 Tennessee Distinguished Principal K-8 by the National Association of Elementary School Principals and the U.S. Department of Education. read more


MVNU to host activist Naomi Tutu
Naomi Tutu, daughter of Nobel Laureate Desmond Tutu, will visit Mount Vernon Nazarene University on Wednesday, September 10, to talk about her experience growing up as a black female in apartheid South Africa. read more
