Preacher to Preacher

Guest Editorial

You are cordially invited to be a part of PALCON 2004, a special event designed for all the clergy of our church. This year’s theme is ‘Encountering the glory of God.’ As the steering committee began to meet many months ago, we sensed that more than another conference or program, Nazarene clergy need and desire the empowering touch of God upon our lives. Programs, projects, and awards are not the fuel for our ministry; rather, we need to experience the presence and glory of the Almighty!

I have been asked many questions about PALCON recently, including perhaps the most important, “Why PALCON, and why now?” We all have more than enough to occupy our time, but ultimately, there is immense value in gathering to worship, learn, laugh, pray, and cry together. It has been too long for most of us. There is sometimes the tendency to stagnate in our affinity groups, but once in a while, we need to come together as those called and gifted to minister in the Church of the Nazarene. We need you there!

What is going to happen at PALCON?”

A General Superintendent will open each conference by sharing from his heart, calling us to a time of prayer and of seeking the wisdom and presence of God. Monday night promises to be a special time of worshiping together.

Outstanding speakers for the morning plenary sessions are scheduled throughout the week: Dr. George Hunter, Dr. Kennon Callahan, and Dr. H. B. London. We are also offering three mega-workshops, led by Dr. Norm Henry, Dr. Neil Wiseman, and Dr. Harold Ivan Smith.

Additional workshops, covering topics and issues helpful for your own life and ministry, are being led by your regional colleagues. Many resource groups will also be offering workshop tracks for specific training needs.

Nazarene pastors will share the preaching, and a regional worship leader is contributing to the planning and implementation of the evening worship services.

What are some of the benefits of attending PALCON 2004?” You will be able to:

Participate in inspirational worship services

Earn two CEU credits for attending the entire event

Hone your ministry skills through workshops

Fellowship with other clergy from across your region

Make new friends

Partake of a time of renewal

Who is invited to PALCON?”

Pastors

Associate pastors

Evangelists

Missionaries on furlough

Please join me in praying that PALCON 2004 will be a time of renewal and transformation as we seek to ‘Encounter the glory of God’ together. As we approach this sacred Lenten season, may the risen Christ be evident in all of our plans and endeavors!

Joyfully,

Ron Blake
